Before your appointment:
Your rates are pretty cheap.  What's up with that?
As an actor and instructor, I know what it's like to stress about getting a great headshot and more importantly, being able to afford it!  People often think, it it's expensive, it's gotta' be the best, right?  Wrong!  While many places with top rates produce top quality shots, just as many do not - just a quick Google search can show you that.  I also want you to come back for more!  If you're making a huge investment, sometimes you're not able to update your headshots for several years.  With my rates, you can update your shot every year, or round out your portfolio with some additional looks, or not worry if you decide to chop all your hair off on a whim!  Less money on your end = less stress = a relaxed shoot = great shots that capture YOU!  It's a win-win!

How do I schedule an appointment?
Email me at patriciappineda@gmail.com with your package preference and suggest a few dates and times that you are available for your session.  When suggesting times, please keep in mind I generally shoot outdoors and utilize natural light.  Also keep in mind the season - if you sweat easily, summer shoots are probably not for you.  If you get cold once the temperature dips below 50 degrees, you should book in the spring, summer, or early fall.  Once I confirm the appointment time, we'll discuss and set a location for your shoot.
What is your payment policy?
A 50% deposit is required to secure your appointment.  Your remaining balance is due the day of your session and is payable by cash, check or via Paypal.  Please make checks payable to "Patricia Pineda."  Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to your appointment to avoid forfeiture of payment.  Rescheduling due to weather will incur no extra charge.  Discounts available for Pineda Conservatory students.  Please email me at patriciappineda@gmail.com for special rates.
What should I wear?
Solid, rich and vibrant colors (esp jewel tones) generally work best, but I suggest bringing a large range of colors, styles and textures.  Avoid shiny or shimmery fabrics and details.  Please bring your clothing “ready to wear” ie. not balled in a trash bag and in need of ironing.  I strongly recommend against jewelry and accessories.  If you must, go small and subtle.  If you want to wear your glasses, for best results, please pop lenses out of your frames.

Your appointment:
What happens at my session?
When we meet at the designated location, we'll take some time to discuss the outfit choices you've brought along and take a look around the location for possible shooting sites. My aim is to make you comfortable so that you act naturally in front of the camera.  I think great shots happen when you’re relaxed, stress-free and having fun.  I will direct you but I’m also open to spontaneity.
What do you mean by a "location"?
A location can be a park, a building with architectural interest or a landmark with visually striking landscaping or statuary.  Once on location, we'll freely move around the area to find contrasting backgrounds and textures to add visual interest to your headshot.
What do you mean by a "look"?
Generally, a "look" consists of one outfit.  I suggest bringing along several different outfits (colors and styles) and we can decide which option will work best for the given location and your needs.  If you've purchased a package with more than one look, we'll discuss possible outfit and background combinations.  During an outfit change you may also opt to change your hairstyle and make-up (please note that your session time includes outfit and/or make-up and hair changes).  Some may define a “look” as a character type ie. girl next door, sexy, serious.  I find these “looks” depend more on expression than wardrobe, and only count as one of your package “looks” if it requires a specific wardrobe change.
How many pictures do you take?
I do not count shots during your session.  I will continue shooting until your session has expired.  If you’d like to see some of the images as we go, I’m happy to show you - it’s great to take a look and see what’s working and what’s not.  Although, if you’re self-conscious, looking at the unedited images may make you more uneasy.
What happens if it rains or snows?
Should your appointment need to be rescheduled due to weather, you will incur no additional fee.  If you need to reschedule for any other reason, a re-booking fee may apply.
What about hair and makeup?
Hair and makeup should look as you would for an audition - clean, natural, polished, professional, and most importantly, like you!  Don’t forget the little things like groomed brows, clean nails, etc. Stay away from shimmer, glitter, and shine.  Men, keep it simple - a little lip balm and a touch of concealer can go a long way.  If you want photos with and without facial hair, please let me know and we will schedule appropriately, possibly breaking up the session into two.  I also offer my professional hair and makeup services for an additional fee.  If you choose to style yourself, please arrive with hair and makeup complete and bring your own supplies for touch-ups.
Can I bring a friend?
Of course.  Especially if they don’t mind carrying wardrobe changes and holding a light reflector from time to time.  But if you’re uncomfortable giving me a sultry gaze in front of your Mom or can’t stay focused if your boyfriend is watching, it’s best to leave them at home.

After your appointment:
How/when can I see my shots?
Your unedited hi-resolution proofs will be available for review 3-5 business days after your shoot.  You will be emailed a link and password to a protected online album you can share with your family, friends, agent.  I throw out any shots that are blurred or sub-par, and the only editing done to them is cropping.  I will let you know which photos I like the best, but you're under no obligation to choose them.  From there, you pick your favorites for editing, up to 8 images.  Once they're retouched (2-4 business days), I will send another link/password for you to choose you final images.  If you like, the album can be made "public" for your family, friends, agent to help you choose.  If you need your images in a hurry, a rush fee will apply.  Contact me prior to your shoot at patriciaPpineda@gmail.com and we will discuss your specific needs.
What does "retouching" mean?
Though my aim is to capture a realistic and flattering image that best captures your unique personality, all pictures will need some degree of retouching.  Retouching means that I will brighten up the eye area, clean stray hairs, smooth out the skin, color correct, sharpen, etc.  You want to look as much like your headshot as possible when you walk into that audition, so don't confuse retouching for "plastic surgery."
Do I get to keep all my pictures?
The number of hi-res retouched images you keep are noted in your package description.  You will receive a digital file via email and/or CD with your images, formatted for print and web, including a formatted 8x10 headshot with your name.  Additional hi-res retouched images may be purchased for $30 each with any package.
Can you provide me with prints?
For an additional fee, I can provide you with prints, however, if you need a large number of headshots printed, I can recommend several reliable and reputable reproduction companies that will be more cost-effective.
